Interpersonal skills cover a broad spectrum of human relationships…basically, it is how people interact and get along with one another in a variety of social situations.
These include creating rapport with others and this is probably the most important interpersonal skill to develop.
You can create rapport by simply listening to people when they are speaking to you. By reflecting back what they have said so that they feel heard and understood you will increase your popularity. remember everyone likes to be listened to.
You may have heard other people talking about why you have got two ears and only one mouth. It’s because that’s the ratio you should use them in.
Other interpersonal skills include matching and mirroring other peoples movements, stance and appearance. People like people who are like them. this doesn’t mean you have to be a clone of them but what it does mean is that they appreciate others who share similar values. Appearance is one of these values.
Remember that despite thousands of years of evolution human beings are still members of tribes deep down inside. To become part of a tribe, to be accepted means you need to behave, appear and act like all the other members of that tribe.
There are ways that you can develop to “break in ” to a tribe that you want to join. These skills are also useful with those that you already know. Maybe you just want to get on a bit better with them.
