The utmost important skill is to sound monotone. Just kidding. Sorry couldn't help it.

Seriously though, being the EXACT opposite of monotone helps tremendously. A lot of people will have a totally different experience with you when on the phone and it shows management that you want to BE somewhere within the company.

Too often, I speak to customer service reps that are monotone and it infuriates me for some reason.
