Work At Home Jobs and Communications

More and more companies are encouraging their employees to consider working at home as a means to improve employee moral, productivity and reduce overall costs. At one time, and there are still many people who think this way, if you were not in the office, your boss thought you were goofing off. In this article we will explore some of the communications issues of work at home jobs.

Most people will say the single most significant advantage of work at home jobs is not having to face the morning commute with the stop and go traffic congestion on the highways. The most significant disadvantage that many employees complain about is the lack of face time with the boss and colleagues. They often express a feeling of being disconnected from the company and their co-workers. Both of these interface issues can be remedied, however both the work at home employee and the company must place additional effort on these issues. Ensuring adequate and regular communication is a must to avoid that disconnected feeling.

In this article we have assumed that the work at home employee is fully equipped with all of the office tools they need to be productive and meet the requirements of their company. The central issue of this article is how to ensure that remote employees are recognized and feel part of the team. There are a number of steps that each can take to make sure that communications are well done and that disconnected feeling is avoided.

For example, either the boss or the employee can initiate weekly conference calls to discuss progress on milestones and productivity, issues that may need resolution and communicate company information. These calls are often with the group as a whole and provide an opportunity for everyone to hear the same message and ask questions that the team may be interested in.

Next weekly, sometimes even daily short calls may be needed to discuss project or work specific items that need clarification or direction. These are usually short calls and used for each team member individually to discuss personal as well as specific issues. Dont let these wait, deal with them now, while you can still make a difference.

Finally, review how each team member likes to communicate. Some are much better using email and text messaging, while others are more reactive if you call them. Still in other cases, you may find that you have to chase some just to get the answers you need to do your job. Review each team member, including the boss and decide which form of communication is the best approach to use with them to ensure that your overall work at home experience is a success.

My wife and I recenty had our first baby. We would like for her to be a stay at home mom, but would also like for her to have some sort work. Not looking for a high paying job, but would be nice to be in the 10 – 15/hour range. Any ideas would be welcome.

Any ideas of real jobs to persue, no sales or gimmick jobs please.
I'm not looking for these online fill in forms kind of "jobs". Looking for something more along the line of clerical work.

  • If you are looking for work she can do from home, I suggest you start building an online business and fast. The time is ripe and there is lots of money that can be made.

Sure there is lots to learn and it does require work. Most businesses require an investment and at some point you will have to invest in your online business. The good thing is you can start with very little and pretty much pay as you go. You don't have to shell out tons to get started.

If you are serious, and really want to earn extra money from home, you can visit this site and make your own decision. Hope this helps.

  • Work from home opps are rarely real jobs. NEVER if they ask you to buy something or pay for your own training. Usually only very highly qualified people, like somebody who has been working the phones from home as sales rep, for many years, will qualify for work from home employees. Most of the work from home opps are bogus. Contact me if you want more info, but there is a very likely chance that you will NOT qualify to work from home. Many of the jobs listed as 'Virtual Jobs/Travel" can be found at the sites listed below.

There are many good sites for career seekers though where you might find virtual jobs. I am a sales person and one of the products I sell is one of the top career building Web sites in existence. That said, I can tell you that you need to utilize numerous sites. Use the top ones listed in YAHOO and also look for niche sites, AND individual headhunter Web sites. If you seek six figure jobs, BE REALISTIC HERE, then htttp://6figurejobs.com/ is a great place to go. If you are in sales, then http://www.salesladder.com, for techies go to http://www.techcareers.com, and on. Use a few, test some to measure responses, then adjust. Evolve your strategy and don't stop it because you found a job. Keep yourself on the market.
