2 Long Island University Research Forum Mutual Value Theory 3Mutual Value Theory (MVT) learning model was developed by Dr. Dengting Boyanton through her two-year dissertation research on student classroom learning conducted at the University of Virginia (Charlottesville). Mutual Value Theory (MVT) learning model was developed to demonstrate how to achieve the powerful interpersonal communication and create powerful learning in the college classroom. MVT states that in order to create powerful interpersonal communication, four values have to be created: each communicator must 1) highly value themselves (self-value), 2) perceive themselves as being highly valued by others (perceived self-value), 3) highly value others (other-value), and 4) highly value the course (course-value).
